You’re in the right place if you want to…

  • learn how to be responsible for your thoughts, words, and actions.

  • be the hero in your life story (instead of the victim).

  • live more intentionally and manifest the reality you desire.

The three R’s—Respect, Responsibility and Resourcefulness—are often taught in elementary schools. I wanted to apply them to witchcraft.

What we learn as children is often more about how to be good people and how to participate in a civilization.

Being respectful of others and the world we live in, taking responsibility for our actions, and being resourceful with the things we know and the materials we have available to us.

This post is a continuation of the discussion of responsibility…

In Part 1, I shared with you how I took responsibility for my life by becoming vegan. In doing so I became a steward of the Earth, which my magic and spirituality depend upon. I improved the health of my physical body. And I no longer contribute to the suffering of animals and humans in the livestock industry.

Today, I want to give you nine ways to take responsibility for your own life.

Through following these ideas you will raise your vibration, gain control over your circumstances and ultimately have a better understanding of your power.

1. Take responsibility for your thoughts, words and actions.

You create your reality with your thoughts, words, and actions. This is truly the foundation of witchcraft: the intention you set throughout your human experience.

When you take responsibility for the thoughts you have, you are acknowledging and accepting that they are YOUR thoughts coming from YOUR mind.

The same is true for the words YOU speak coming from YOUR mouth and voice.

YOU take the actions with YOUR body.

With this knowledge you become accountable for the effects of your thoughts, words, and actions. It also means that you get to decide what those things will be. Nobody else has control over this.

Likewise, you can’t control how others respond to you because they have their own reality.

2. Stop blaming.

When you blame your partner, society, your upbringing, or someone else for your misfortune, you remain in victim mode. Playing the victim robs you of your power to make change in your life. Stop playing the blame-game and take responsibility. This takes you from victim to hero in your life story. A hero is always looking for the solution, the opportunity, the next plan of action.

3. Stop complaining.

When you complain, you are essentially saying you had no choice. Remember that life is happening for you, not to you. Complaining keeps you focus only on the things you don’t like and you will continue to only see the circumstances you want to avoid. Whenever you are in a situation where you want to complain, look at the bigger picture. Look for the gift or the lesson. Start seeing the doors that are opening for you because of this situation.

4. Refuse to take anything personally.

Taking things personally means you are assuming everything is about you when in reality, it’s about the other person. Remember that you have no control over how other people think, speak and act. You cannot control how they perceive their reality. You can only control how it effects you and how you respond to them.

Don’t make assumptions about the motives of the other person, ask them questions to clarify their meaning and help you both come to a place of understanding.

5. Make yourself happy.

Taking responsibility for your own happiness is one of the most liberating things you can do as a witch. That’s because happiness is a choice you can make. It doesn’t come from some external source like your partner, your career, your parents, friends, children, or pets. It doesn’t come from the activities you engage in, the food you eat or the beverages you drink. These things can bring you joy but they are not responsible for that. You CHOOSE to let them bring you joy.

Make sure you surround yourself with people who remind you of happiness. Express gratitude to them and keep a record of the moments your felt genuinely happy.

Participate in activities that raise your energy: listen to music, dance, express creativity, etc. Record the way you feel when you do these activities.

And don’t forget to pay it forward, spread joy to everyone and everything you encounter. Remind others that they can choose to be happy, too.

6. Live in the present moment.

There are lessons you can learn from the past, you can prepare for the future by making smart choice, but when it comes to what really matters—there is only NOW.

The moment you are in now is a gift from your past self. They created it for you. Take responsibility for creating a bright reality for your future self by thinking, speaking, and acting intentionally now.

Be conscious of the present so that you can be discerning about your thoughts, words, and behavior. Interrupt what isn’t serving you and redirect your mind toward what does.

7. Use the power of intention.

You choose your fate when you actively take responsibility for your life. Make every choice intentionally.

Start be creating a vision for your life. Journal, collage, draw, or simply record yourself talking about what you want out of this life. Whenever you are faced with a decision—whether about your life, your work, your relationships, your health, or your finances—hold onto your vision.

Only proceed with choices that align with your goal.

8. Feel calm and confident.

As you take responsibility for your life, you will begin to feel more calm and confident. This is because you are trusting that you are living in alignment with the vision you are manifesting. Calmness gives you more control over you you respond to things and confidence emerges from the knowledge that your life is unfolding exactly as you intend.

9. Look for the good in people.

Even though you can’t control other people and how they behave, it’s important to try to see the good in them. It’s been said that we judge ourselves by our intentions and we judge others by their behavior. Instead, try to see the intention behind the behavior when interacting with other people.

Ask questions, and listen to the responses with the intention of understanding rather than waiting for your chance to respond with your very important opinion. Take responsibility for having illuminating conversations, learning from others, and building relationships.
