The Five Other Principles of Magic

If you've been following along with Mumbles & Things, you're probably familiar with the seven principle of magic. But did you know that there are five other principles or laws that govern the way that this Universe works? Most commonly known as the "Twelve Immutable Laws of the Universe," each law beautifully coexists with the others to create a bigger picture.

In order to receive everything you want in life, you must understand or at least acknowledge these principles.

Here's a refresher on the principles we've already discussed...

The Principle of Correspondence

The Law of Correspondence states that your outer world reflects your inner world. Everything is a reflection and in order to change something on the outside, you must first change it on the inside.

You can’t force anything or make a shift in your reality by physically trying to change it. Change your perception and perspective of it to see it differently first. Then—once you see it differently—you can begin to view it from a more empowered place.

If you find yourself stuck, start by practicing forgiveness. Forgive yourself and forgive others to change your internal state. Then, put on an inspirational audio or video, read a good book, or journal out some of your frustrations or worries.

It's only what happens in the mind that will be reflected in your reality, so whenever you get frustrated with your reality, ask yourself what you can do differently inside to create a different reflection.

The Principle of Mentalism (or Oneness)

The Principle of Oneness states that we are all ONE and also that we are all ONE with the Universe, or God, or your higher power of choice. There is no difference between you and me, and there is no difference between you and this source energy. Each of us has within the divine power to create magic.

Ultimately, this law states that what you do to someone else, you do to yourself. If you find yourself gossiping, or treating someone with disrespect, you may as well be doing the same to yourself—because energetically you are.

This can be summarized as "Do unto other as you would have them do unto you." Celebrate people when they receive what you want, because if they can have it... so can you!

The Principle of Vibration

Everything has a vibration and everything is energy. When you look at solid objects (including yourself) under a high powered microscope, you will find that everything is composed of atoms. Those atoms are vibrating and those vibrations are emitting a frequency, creating an energetic field.

You may not be able to see it physically, but you are a ball of energy. In order to receive what you want, you need to become a vibrational match to the thing, person, experience, or circumstance. This is called alignment. You align with it by feeling the way someone who already has what you want feels.

Because your emotions are vibrations, this is the fastest way to become an energetic match to the thing you want. Once you become an energetic match, you have accessed the powerful Principle of Vibration.

The Principle of Cause and Effect

Also known as Karma, the Principle of Cause and Effect states that you reap what you sow. Remember that whatever seed you plant into the ground doesn't matter. The ground (or soil) itself doesn't care. It will grow whatever is planted without judgment or preference.

If you are unsatisfied with what you're reaping, perhaps it's time to check in on your seeds. What are you planting into the ground? Are they positive thoughts or thoughts of worry? Are you planting seeds of pain, jealousy, envy, and ill-wishes for someone else? Knowing that whatever is planted grows into what you harvest, make sure you're focusing on what you actually WANT.

The Principle of Polarity

The Principle of Polarity states that every single thing in this Universe has its polar opposite. Joy has sadness, magic has mundane, light has dark, and up has down.

Many get frustrated with the fact that polar opposites exist, but the Universe does this to serve us. You will get what you don't want in order to have even more clarity on what you do want, and actually appreciate it when we receive it. It is hard to truly be grateful for joy when you have never felt true sadness before. It is hard to appreciate the beautiful sunlight if you've never experienced darkness.

Polarity exists so that we can exercise our focus. Just like any other muscle, focus requires persistent practice in order to grow stronger. By having polar opposites, you become really good at focusing on what you do want rather than what you don't want.

The Principle of Gender

The Principle of Gender tells us that everything has both a masculine and feminine energy. The two energies of projecting (masculine) and receiving (feminine) coexist and we must find the balance between the two.

Using magic to create the life of your dreams requires you to dance between patience (feminine) and persistence (masculine). Embodying just one or the other will either lead you nowhere, or to push yourself so hard that you are left frustrated and exhausted. When you find the balance, you are both taking inspired action AND receiving all of your desires.

The Principle of Rhythm

The Principle of Rhythm reminds us that nature is seasonal and cyclical. Since we are innately a part of nature, we too have seasons and natural rhythms. Work when you feel inspired to put in the work, and rest when you feel inspired to rest.

Just like you can't expect 365 days of summer, you can't expect to be energized, happy, and productive every single day of the year. Winter comes around every year and gives you a natural a break to nurture your soul, and to rejuvenate your spirits. This is also to say that you can't expect 365 days of winter either.

Trust that the inspiration will come back once you've had your rest.

The Other 5 Principles

Now what are these other five principles of magic?

My first introduction to magic or manifestation was through the Law of Attraction. Specifically—like so many others— it was through reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

When I started to explore witchcraft, these seven principles, outlined in the Kybalion, were presented to me. Seven is a very magical number, and some believe these are enough.

Many Law of Attraction practitioners follow these seven principles plus an additional five that are all outlined in Milanovich and McCunes book The Light Shall Set You Free, published in 1998.

There are many systems and collections of principles and laws of the universe. Dick Sutphen's book Lighting the Light Within, published in 1987, includes 20 principles.

In truth, there are probably hundreds of principles that explain the workings of the Universe.

Let’s just look at five more now…

The Principle of Action

The Principle of Action tells us that physical action is how we create the physical manifestation of what we want. You can visualize, dream, chant, and meditate all you want. In fact, these are great tools for taking spiritual action! However, this principle specifically references physical action. You must actually DO something that relates to what you're manifesting, and that physical action results in faster results.

Recognize that this doesn’t mean ANY action. This principle refers to inspired action, which means it is important to pay attention to nudges from the Universe about your next step.

Many spiritual teachers don’t pay attention to the Principle of Action, but it's a physical law that governs the way magic works. Resistance is the result of ignoring it.

The Principle of Attraction

The Principle of Attraction—or the Law of Attraction—simply states that "like attracts like." Similar to the Principle of Cause and Effect, the Universe doesn't care what energy you put out into the world. It will only return that same energy back to you without judgment or preference. Beneficial energy will attract beneficial energy and unhelpful energy will attract unhelpful energy.

If your reality is filled with things that you don't want, it doesn't mean you're a bad person or that you don't deserve what you want. This is a chance for you to check in and see what kind of energy you're sending out into the Universe. Check with your thoughts, feelings, and actions... are they focused on what you want? Or are they focused on what you don’t want?

You’re current reality is a reflection of your past thought and actions. Wherever your present thoughts and actions are on the spectrum gives a preview of what your future reality will look like.

The Principle of Perpetual Transformation

This principle is a mouthful but such a great one when it comes to recognizing how much power you truly have. The Principle of Perpetual Transmutation reminds us that we have the power to change our life as soon as we decide to change it.

Nothing is static and everything is always changing and transforming. You can transmute unhelpful energy into beneficial energy and you can create something out of NOTHING.

This principle also reminds us that high vibration energy will consume low vibration energy. If you’re worried that the low vibes of others will bring you down, you are wasting your worry. What actually brings you down is your fear and perception. Just keep focusing on your energy and you'll be able to inspire others as a result.

The Principle of Compensation

The Principle of Compensation is similar to the Principle of Cause and Effect. This principle refers to receiving gifts, blessings, and monetary rewards. It reminds us to not only give what we want to receive, but also to give freely and to give without expectations. When you have high expectations and a lack of appreciation, you are resisting your own blessings.

This principle also reminds us that we are more than allowed to be highly compensated for spiritual work as those who bring others closer to their channels of abundance, peace, success, and fulfillment will be greatly blessed in return. Don’t be afraid to share your gifts with the world, and don’t be afraid to be compensated fairly for your gifts.

The Principle of Relativity

The Principle of Relativity states that every single soul on this planet will face challenges from time to time. However, the degree of challenge is relative and nothing is ever as bad as it seems. This principle is a reminder to keep your perspective in check.

Life is always happening for us and not to us. When you judge your challenges, it only make you feel less empowered and unable to make it through them. Understand that any obstacles, challenges or "problems" that you face were divinely planned for you to make you stronger, better, and help you evolve into the best versions of yourself.

By understanding all of these principles of magic and manifestation, you can create the world you want to live in and live more consciously within the pattern of reality.
