Queen of Cups

Every week we choose a Tarot Card, and we look for moments that relate to this card in our daily lives. This week’s card is the Queen of Cups, which is a Cancer Season card.

The Queen of Cups is reminiscent of the Botticelli painting, the Birth of Venus. We see the clam shell in her throne and the angel babies all around her. Venus is the Roman Goddess of love and beauty.

This is a person who prioritizes pleasure, going to art shows, concerts, and social events, and surrounding themself with beautiful, luxurious things. But this is not a selfish person. They love to share, and they love to take care of others. They are very generous and loving.

You can see that she has a fancier crown than the other queens, her dress is very flowy and clingy, like it’s made of silk, her hair is braided, and this is probably the fanciest cup we’ll see in the suit. This is the person who is very good at taking care of themself.

You can see how intently she is looking at the cup in her hand. She is also focused on creating and sharing love with everyone she encounters.

5 Ways to Make the Most of Cancer Season

1. Check in with your family

Check in with your parents and remember your childhood home. Cancerian energy is all about home and family so get in touch with those who nurtured you and helped you grow in your childhood. If you don’t have family nearby, or at all, those who feel like family are important too. Reflect on the home you’ve made for your family and how it may have been influenced by they way you grew up.

2. Let go of your insecurities, fears and limits

The Cancer energy is symbolized by the crab for good reason, the hard shell protects the vulnerable innards. You may find yourself more sensitive than usual this cycle so look for the root of this feeling. Are these feelings coming from a place of insecurity, fear or possessiveness? It’s okay to let down the defenses every once in a while.

3. Connect with your cozy, nurturing side

This energy is warm and caring like a big hug. Fix yourself a big cup of your favorite warm beverage and wrap yourself up in blankets. Take a lovely warm bath surrounded by candles and return to a womb like setting where you were once completely safe, protected and cared for. The water will also deeply connect you to the Cancer energy. Alternatively visit another body of water outside for a swim.

4. Reflect on your goals and recommit.

This cycle marks the year half point. This makes it a great opportunity to reflect on your yearly goals. Flip back to the Yearly Vision section and compare where you are now with where you were aiming for at the beginning of this year. Think about what needs revising, what needs nurturing and where you are right on course.

5. Establish a self care routine.

It’s been said that you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you already have a self care routine, revisit it to be sure everything is still valuable to your overall well being. If you don’t have a self care routine, take this opportunity to offer care to yourself. When you care for yourself you can then care for those around you, including your family and other loved ones.
