People seem to love or hate Amethyst, with very few falling in the middle of the spectrum. Whatever your feelings about Amethyst, it is good for almost every type of magic and is full of goddess energy. The birthstone for February can be useful for everyone, even if you weren't born in February.

  • Color: purple to lavender
  • Appearance: transparent, pointed crystals; may be geode, cluster, or single point; all sizes
  • Rarity: one of the most common crystals
  • Source: United States, Britain, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Sri Lanka, Uruquay, East Africa, Siberia, India

Like many other gemstones, Amethyst can be found in various forms, including crystals, tumbled stones, chunks, and clusters. It can also range from relatively inexpensive to wildly pricey, but don't feel that you need to invest hundred of dollars to have one in your collection. In fact, you're better off with a small hunk you resonate with than a gigantic pillar that doesn't move you at all.

Attributes

Amethyst is an n extremely powerful and protective stone associated with love magic and healing, as well as promoting peace and sleep, courage, and increasing psychic ability. It is generally seen as a stone with high spiritual vibration and can be worn as jewelry if you need an extra boost.

Amethyst is extremely beneficial to the mind, calming or stimulating as needed. It enhances memory and improves motivation, helping you to set more realistic goals. It helps you feel less scattered, more focused and in control of your faculties. Amethyst enhances the assimilation of new ideas and connects cause with effect.

This stone helps you to make decisions. It pulls common sense and spiritual insights, and puts decisions and insights into place. It calms and synthesizes, making it especially useful for insomnia associated with an overactive mind. It can protect against recurrent nightmares and help you to remember and understand dreams.

Promoting emotional centering, Amethyst balances out highs and lows. It dispels anger, rage, fear, and anxiety. It support coming to terms with loss, alleviating sadness and grief.

Used at a higher level, Amethyst has strong healing and cleansing powers, enhances spiritual awareness, and opens to another reality. Its serenity enhances elevated states of consciousness and meditation. It can be extraordinarily helpful during meditation, turning your thoughts away from the mundane into tranquility and deeper understanding.

Amethyst is one of the most spiritual stones, promoting love of the divine, giving insights into its true nature and encouraging selflessness and spiritual wisdom. It opens intuition and enhances psychic gifts by transmuting "lower" energies to the higher frequencies of the spiritual and etheric realms.

Try This

  • Keep a small piece of amethyst with whatever tools you use for divination, such as tucked into the bag that holds your tarot cards.
  • Charge Amethyst by the light of the moon, then hold over your heart to take that energy into yourself. (Note: Amethyst fades in the sun! Do not leave in direct sunlight for long periods of time, the moon is better.)
  • Wear or carry for the sobering effect on overindulgence and physical passions.
  • Place geodes and clusters in your environment to experience their energy.
  • Use Single points for healing properties: place the point end toward you to direct energy inward and away to draw out negativity.
  • Sleep with it under your pillow to help with insomnia and nightmares, to facilitate out-of-body experiences and to bring intuitive dreams.
