Magical Planning for the New Year

To start off the show, we look at our Tarot Card for the week and we look for moments that relate to this card in our daily lives.

For this week, we chose the Ten of Wands. The theme of this card is balancing life in a way that it all fits together.

The pentacles is the suit of practicality, the figure in this image has figured out how to make their resources work for them and they makes it look effortless. They are balancing and juggling these pentacles and creating the infinity symbol as if they have done this forever and will continue.

It makes me think about the idea of “having it all” where your life comes together, whatever you are balancing is just working. If you have kids or a partner, you’re balancing your calendar and their calendars. Maybe you’ve got work and school happening at the same time, or writing a book and remodeling your home. Or any combination of the above and all the other things you might be balancing. 

It just sort of feels like everything is fitting together and sliding by without collision and you feel like you’re doing a good job and it may not be easy but you’ve figured out the rhythm.

Be / do / have

What do you want to BE?

You are a human being. You are worthy and you are enough just as you are right now. Think about the type of person you want to be. You can be any version of yourself you desire.

  • What type of person are you? Name your top three values that define who you are or who you want to be.

  • Name three people that inspire you. These can be famous people you’ve never met, or people who you know personally.

  • Write three identities. These could be job descriptions like author, entrepreneur, marketer, tarot reader, designer. Or these could be roles you play in your life or someone else’s life like mother or father or parent, husband or wife or partner or spouse, or home owner. Or these can be hobby descriptions like photographer, painter, cook, etc. And there may be some cross over there if a hobby is a business etc.

  • Write down your style and list the things, people, places that you love to be surrounded by. Maybe your style is modern, or eclectic. Maybe you define yourself with sunflowers or the color blue. Be creative here, there are no wrong answers.

What do you want to DO?

You are capable of doing anything you desire. These questions are designed to prompt you to think about what you want to do with this life. This is your one life, and there is no dress rehearsal. This is your opportunity to do what brings you joy.

  • Write 3 things you want to do and want to have accomplished within 12 months. If twelve months feels too long, feel free to shorten the time frame.

  • Name some resources that you know will help you. For example, Mumbles Academy, or another course, teacher, website, book etc.

  • Think about what you do with your time, energy and money that is in service to others. Volunteering at a food bank, donating money or useable clothes and goods, cooking for your family, etc.

  • Think about what you do with your time, energy, and money that is in service to yourself. This is about your self care. Do you set aside time to take a luxurious bath each week, do you have a standing appointment with a masseuse. Do you spend ten minutes each morning drinking your tea or coffee with intention?

What do you want to HAVE?

There is nothing wrong with the desire to have something. This is the fun part where you start to order physical things you want to have from the cosmic menu! Setting very clear intentions about what you want to have and create is super important.

  • Make a list of the things you want to have. What does you house look like and how is it decorated? Do you have a bike or a car? What’s hanging in your closet? What kind of dishes are in your kitchen? What does your furniture look like?

SMART Goals

One popular method for setting goals is called the SMART goal method, which is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based.

  • Specific means stating what it is you want.

  • Measurable means you understand what it means to succeed. Sometimes this is a number, like the money example. Sometimes this is a feeling you will have.

  • Attainable means you believe it’s possible for you to achieve this goal. If a goal feels too big for you right now, create a few milestones in between.

  • Relevant means it’s aligned with your life path. This should be the case after going through the BE/DO/HAVE exercise. If you’ve done that, you’ve written out exactly what your heart’s desires are.

  • Time-Based means you set a time constraint on it, when it would be really good if this happened by. We sometimes don’t have much control over when these manifestations will show up, but it’s good to have a sense of your time-frame.

How does it feel?

The next part of this goal planning exercise is to think about how it will feel to achieve this smart goal. Think about this in terms of your emotions as well as all five of your senses. How will your life change? What will you experience physically as a result?

Big Steps

Take your Smart goal and break it up into smaller stepping stones. If you find that your Smart goal needs to be broken into more than four big steps, consider slimming down your smart goal. You should be able to complete these big steps in roughly one week, so you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with more than that.

Little Steps

Think about the little steps involved in the big steps. There are other things going on in your life beyond these goals. The needs of family and friends, home maintenance, work responsibilities, education, self care, etc. Recognizing the little steps makes it so you think about your goal about three times each week.

Habits

I consider a habit to be something you do without thinking. Think about what habits you can add to your morning routine or evening routine that will support your goal.

Tips for recording a great voicemail

  • Make sure you’re somewhere quiet.

  • Plan what you’re going to say ahead of time, because two minutes goes quickly.

  • Opt for talking freely based on a bullet pointed list rather than reading word-for word from a script.

  • Let us know if you’d prefer to remain anonymous.
